So, I am waist-deep in the craziest month of my bassoon life. I have played so many gigs and it isn't slowing down 'til June, probably. I am so very happy. This is just what I always wanted! However. There is a dark side. The dark side of gigging.
1. You eat terribly--even if you bring a bag of baby carrots to eat in the car (because you live there now. that's your home), after you eat them you think, "you know what would go really well with these baby carrots? A milk shake and a burrito."
2. You live in your car. And if it didn't smell amazing before, it definitely won't now.
3. You have to find exotic places like Uniontown and Greensburg and get there on time.
4. You will have no life.
This year has been important for me to learn what I really want to do. I used to think I wanted to be a freelancer, and I still think I could do it. But the desire for a full-time orchestra gig burns more brightly than ever! I sent my resume to a few places and hopefully I will be on an exciting audition trip in no time. Now, I gotta go pick up a horn player and play a gig. I don't have time to be doing this!
